How does connected careers work in madden

They interact with fans through forums and social media, and reveal information on their websites instead of through press releases. This communication allows them to get their message across to the people who care about it the most, and ideally, get them to buy the products they make. EA Tiburon is promising that Madden NFL 13 will quiet the usual crowd of gamers who deride each new entry in the series as a "roster update.

It doesn't help that Connected Careers does away with much of what's familiar from three hitherto disparate modes — Franchise, Superstar, and Online Franchise — and replaces them with a comprehensive setup that Josh Looman, Lead Connected Careers Designer, says is "deeper than all of the other three modes combined.

Franchise has the longest history, having debuted in Madden NFL The series' first foray into current-generation consoles, Madden NFL 06 , brought Superstar into the world. Since they didn't communicate with each other, changing a single feature across all three modes took three separate efforts — a significant waste of resources already limited by the harsh nature of an annual development cycle.

Yet that was the way it had to be: each mode offered a different type of NFL experience, and each had its own way of doing things.

Looman has been lobbying for the implementation of Connected Careers, in some form, for four years. The Madden team at EA Tiburon began working on it in late , at the start of the Madden NFL 12 development cycle, and with good reason: Connected Careers is a complete overhaul of Madden's career modes, and signals a bold new direction for the franchise. The title indicates that the mode unites Franchise, Superstar, and Online Franchise under one banner, and also refers to its networked nature.

If you want a pure solo experience, offline Connected Careers lets you compete against computer-controlled opponents. But you can also play online Connected Careers alone in a private league, which will give you access to connectivity such as a Facebook page and Twitter account for your league. You can create a first-year player or coach from scratch, an option that supports Photo Game Face; assume control of any current player or coach; or start out in the rookie year of one of 30 legends, including Hall of Famers such as Michael Irvin and John Madden himself.

There's more to that choice than the career path alone. Also, you're sort of at the mercy of your opponent if you have conflicting positions. To cite a previous example, our human who is controlling the Steelers will have a lot of downtime, since he's not actually doing anything for half the game. Playing as a player for online Connected Franchise is an exercise of some patience, but it's a fun and rewarding system in case you're bored of the standard gameplay.

Finally, the more humans controlling the game, the slower the league may move. If everyone is committed to playing regularly, you can swiftly move the league along and continue your career. When any player is ready to play their game, their opponent if not an AI will get an instant message through the console to do so as well. If someone is stalling and the commissioner doesn't want to force things, you might find yourself stuck waiting sometimes. Any matches you have against the AI can be done on your own time, but matches against human-controlled teams must be done live.

You may want to coordinate with your opponent through Xbox Live or PSN messages to make sure your game happens. The above all applies to online Connected Franchises, of course. You have much fewer limitations for offline connected careers, and can advance at your own pace.

Just remember that unlike Madden 13, you can have cooperative games or even adversarial games in Franchise. Last Edited: 23 Sep pm. What Makes the Franchise "Connected"? Multiplayer Franchise A change from last year is that offline Connected Franchises are now allowed to be multiplayer for the most part. Limitations to Online Connected Franchises As previously mentioned, human players cannot control the same team.

That was always a major draw for me. The part that genuinely appealed to me was having some familiarity with the players entering my franchise mode. When rookies are generated as random names with no details, it can be a bit bland. Failure to meet even that standard could and most likely will result in your release from the team. Meeting your level two goal or above will result in getting a contract extension from the team. All of your contracts will be for one season, so you are constantly in jeopardy of losing your job in the off-season.

Unlike the real NFL, you will never lose the job mid-season. Though you can only earn your season goal experience once a year, you can obtain experience from the game-to-game goals and milestone goals multiple times in a season. The game goals are fairly simple to earn, and are a great way to obtain experience quickly and efficiently.

Milestone goals are a little more difficult to meet. These goals are cumulative over the course of a season and career, and again, you can meet some multiple times in a season. Goals like forcing multiple turnovers in a game or season, or tallying a specific amount of rushing yards during the year reward you for being proficient. Lengthier goals like winning multiple playoff games or getting multiple players nominated for the Pro Bowl reward you for putting together strong rosters.

All of your weekly activities can be viewed under the My Actions tab on the menu. You begin your first week on the job in the pre-season.
