However, Sasuke would never recognise Naruto, because, by doing so, he would also have to admit that he was weaker than him. Despite a lecture from Kakashi about the pointlessness of revenge, the appearance of Orochimaru's Sound Four , with an offer of greater powers, and yet another humiliating pummelling, tipped Sasuke over the edge.
Sasuke went to leave the village that night, but was disrupted by Sakura , who then tried to convince him to not leave Konoha. During this conversation, a crying and desperate Sakura confessed her love to Sasuke, and begged him not to leave the village, but he rejected her.
Once she realised that he was going to leave either way, she offered to go with him to help him enact his revenge, which he refused. As a last resort, Sakura threatened to scream and alert the village guards if Sasuke left, and finally, having hit a nerve, Sasuke moved from several feet in front of Sakura to directly behind her in a flash of speed. He sincerely thanks her for everything she had done for him thus far, before knocking her unconscious and laying her on a nearby bench, and then leaving the village.
Naruto also recommended Shino , however Shino was on a special mission with his father at the time. Sakura arrives just before they're leaving and explains to while crying that she failed to stop Sasuke, and asks Naruto, who she believes to be the only one capable of doing so, to do it as a once in a lifetime request.
Naruto makes her a lifetime promise to her to bring Sasuke back to the village. They easily caught up to the Sound Four , who were escorting Sasuke to Orochimaru. Strategies were not used; rather, the team split up.
In the end, he had to consume the red pepper pill, which increased his chakra a hundredfold but left him in an extremely critical condition, usually resulting in death. Taking the pill slimmed down his body, as the excess calories were converted into butterfly wings of chakra. Neji was left in a critical state after the fight. Kiba and Akamaru did an amazing tag team on Sakon, but Sakon split with Ukon right before Kiba and Akamaru could lay a devastating blow.
Meanwhile, Shikamaru, despite all his prowess at forming strategies, simply couldn't kill Tayuya because of her sheer force. He managed to use his Shadow Imitation Technique on her three summons, but she quickly dispelled them both.
Then he caught her in his Shadow Imitation Technique, then his Shadow—Neck Binding Technique , while, at the same time, Akamaru had got injured, with Kiba refusing to leave him. Without Akamaru to do their combination attacks, however, Kiba and Akamaru were forced to retreat Kiba was forced to stab himself in order to escape , and Shikamaru, for the first time, couldn't come up with any ideas to defeat Tayuya, and was forced to keep his Shadow—Neck Binding Technique on her.
Finally, Shikamaru and Kiba were ready to accept their deaths. However, before the finishing strikes could be executed, the Sand ninja arrived to help. Meanwhile, since Tayuya used sound to attack, Temari's wind was a natural enemy. Temari used her Sickle Weasel Technique , which blew away Tayuya and cut her flute in half. Shikamaru used this time to tell Temari about Tayuya's strategies. After a while, Tayuya fixed her flute, and was ready to kill Shikamaru and Temari, but Temari used her Summoning Technique and used the Summoning: Quick Beheading Dance , which was able to kill Tayuya by destroying an entire tract of the forest, in which the sliced debris crushed the latter.
Last, Kimimaro , who was stronger than all of the Sound Four combined, came to aid the escort mission. At first, he was faced with Naruto, but even Naruto's massive amounts of shadow clones proved to be no match for Kimimaro, whose taijutsu skills were more than a match for Naruto's superior numbers. Naruto even used the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox 's chakra, but was still losing. During the fight, Sasuke emerged from the coffin, which caused Naruto to return to normal and begin wondering why Sasuke was with the Sound Four.
The mighty Orochimaru had already given Sasuke power with his curse mark, and he could help him again. Sasuke packed his things and snuck out of the village, not even taking his headband. Sakura tried in vain to stop him, but he did thank her for everything before knocking her out and proceeding.
The next morning, Naruto, Tsunade and the others realized what happened, and formed a five-man team to retrieve their missing friend.
The villainous Orochimaru was suffering greatly, ever since the Third Hokage Hiruzen Sarutobi sealed away his arms and thus denied him the use of ninjutsu. Orochimaru was dying and urgently wanted to get his hands on Sasuke so he could inhabit the boy's body and gain his Sharingan eyes. But time had run out, so very reluctantly, Orochimaru heeded Kabuto's advice and entered the body of another ninja. This action spared Sasuke from the same fate for quite some time.
In fact, it was a huge stroke of luck as Sasuke was given time to grow strong enough to kill Orochimaru later in Naruto Shippuden. Sasuke, feeling he's not getting stronger fast enough, defects from Konoha to join Orochimaru. Naruto along with a team assembled by Shikamaru, set out to stop him but face opposition in the form of Orochimaru's elite guard, The Sound Four. After succeeding in getting Tsunade to take the Hokage position. Naruto goes to visit Sasuke who is still recovering after the Itachi Incident.
Since encountering his brother, Sasuke has become resentful of Naruto's successes and challenges him to a quick match which is interrupted by Kakashi.
Kakashi tries to convinces Sasuke to give up on his revenge against his brother. But no sooner then he leaves him to mull it over. Orochimaru's henchmen, the Sound Four, arrive and attack him trouncing him easily.
They offer Sasuke the chance to get stronger if agree to go with them to Orochimaru. Sasuke accepts and leaves the village, despite a plea from Sakura to stay. Naruto is soon informed of this and he's put into a team selected by Shikamaru which include Kiba, Choji and Neji to bring Sasuke back.
As they prepare to leave. Naruto promises to Sakura he'll bring Sasuke home. You should upgrade or use an alternative browser. Am I the only one who hated the Sasuke Retrieval Arc?
Thread starter christoncrutches Start date Aug 13, Status Not open for further replies. I started reading weekly around that point, and liked pretty much everything before and after. That entire part of the story just really dragged on to me I think some of the current arc has done that as well. I liked some of the planning, and the Kimimaro and Sasuke fights were great, but I really had trouble remaining engaged with the story.
Thing is though, I feel like that portion of the manga is pretty universally praised. What am I missing out on here? Monna Malicious Miraculous Malevolent Maelstrom. It would be statistically impossible for you to be the only person to have hated that arc. Overhaul I'm the bad guy. Kimimaro on his own made that arc. Niccas always talk about how raw a'f Kimimaro was whenever that arc is discussed.
Everything else is irrelevant. Last edited: Aug 13, Invictus-Kun City Hunter. Naruto should have beat Sasuke instead. Melas Active Member. I'd agree with that general assessment since I mostly skipped though that and only interested once Pein came into the picture and Naruto's story started moving on.
The rookies and Sasuke stories never interested me, even in part one. That arc was crippled by stupidity. Splitting up against opponents that were able to take down Jonin?
And win, all of them? And still calling Shikamaru a genius? Though, I agree that there were touching moments: Choji's best moments were in that arc. Shikamaru didn't do bad either. And Kimimaro was one of the most interesting villains around. Besides, the whole desperate feel of the arc made no sense to me.
