Step on the bottom right side of the pier and a plank will lift up, scaring the bird away. Do this a few times until the bird flies high enough and then pick up the Red Herring before it comes back. Go back into the kitchen and leave the Scumm Bar.
Walk west, back up the cliffside and then under the arches. This takes you to the island map. Walk to the clearing near the center of the map and walk west throgh the trees down to a circus tent.
Enter the circus tent and have a chat with the Fettuccini Brothers. Interrupt the brothers and Guybrush will agree to test out the cannon. Leave the circus and make your way back to the village. Walk east along the pier and then through the arches into town. Speak with the shifty looking man with a parrot on his shoulder and purchase the Treasure Map from him for Pieces of Eight. Enter the brown building to the left of the man with the parrot. This is the voodoo store. Take the Rubber Chicken from the table and if you want more backstory and funny stories speak to the Voodoo Lady.
Leave the store and walk up the road under the clock to another section of town. Walk into the Alley to speak with the Sherriff and then head into the Prison. Leave and enter the General Store. Pick up both the Sword and the Shovel. Speak to the Storekeeper and ask to buy them. Click on him to follow him there and then follow him into the forest. The Storekeeper and the Sword Master will have a brief chat before you regain control.
Walk back to the west to go to the map. On the Island Map click on the House in the far east corner. Once you reach the house knock on the door to meet the Sword Instructor. Pay him 30 Pieces of Eight to be taught in the art of insults. Now when you return to the map and bump into Pirates you can challenge them to a fight. Try the insult on another pirate to learn the correct response.
Insult: People fall at my feet when they see me coming. Insult: There are no words for how disgusting you are. Response: Yes there are. You just never learned them. Insult: You make me want to puke. Response: You make me think somebody already did. Insult: I got this scar on my face during a mighty struggle! Insult: Have you stopped wearing diapers yet?
Response: Why, did you want to borrow one? Insult: You have the manners of a beggar. Insult: I once owned a dog that was smarter then you. Response: He must have taught you everything you know. Insult: You fight like a dairy farmer. Response: How appropriate. You fight like a cow.
Response: Your hemorrhoids are flaring up again, eh? Insult: This is the END for you, you gutter-crawling cur! Response: First you better stop waiving it like a feather-duster. Insult: My handkerchief will wipe up your blood! Response: So you got that job as janitor, after all. Insult: There are no clever moves that can help you now. Insult: Only once have I met such a coward!
Insult: My sword is famous all over the Caribbean! Insult: My tongue is sharper then any sword. Response: First you better stop waving it like a feather-duster. Insult: My wisest enemies run away at the first sight of me!
Insult: No one will ever catch ME fighting as badly as you do. One is that she remains marooned on the island after Guybrush sinks the Sea Monkey accidentally by catapulting a boulder towards it. She loses her house to Ozzie Mandrill in a game of insult swordfighting and becomes homeless. This edit will also create new pages on Giant Bomb for:. This process takes no more than a few hours and we'll send you an email once approved. Tweet Clean. Cancel Update. Personally I recommend the remade version because of the controls and the music but the game is otherwise the same.
Old School Switch to classic mode at least once. We first meet our hero, Guybrush Threepwood , atop a cliff on Melee Island. After speaking with the Lookout , walk down the stairs on the bottom-right of the screen.
Head down the path, go past the building and then enjoy the lovely view of the moon. This is the Scumm Bar [Speedrunners don't need to speak to anyone inside]. Head inside and speak with the pirate in the red coat by the door. Say you want to be a pirate and ask where the governor is.
You can speak to Estevan at the next table if you care to learn more about the Melee Island goings-on, or head to the other side of the bar past the red curtain to speak with the Important Looking Pirates. You can ask the pirates for more details if you feel like it, but you need to grab something from the kitchen before you leave the Scumm Bar. To get past, wait outside the kitchen until the cook walks off-screen. Grab the pot from under the right side of the table and then pick up the hunk of meat from on top of the table.
Then use that meat with the pot on the stove to your right. A seagull will fly over and start eating the fish. Guybrush will refuse to pick the fish up for fear of having his hand pecked off.
Go to the end of the dock and step on the board on the nearest side. The board will tip and the seagull will get spooked, but return to the fish shortly. Repeat the process so the gull flies away long enough for you to pick up the fish. At this point the first cutscene of the game will play, introducing you to the ghost pirate LeChuck.
After leaving the Scumm Bar walk back up to the Lookout where you started the game and take the path to the right. Go there and enter the circus tent to the left. Meet the Fettuccini Brothers. Speak to them and agree to be fired from the nearby cannon. Give them the pot you collected from the Scumm Bar kitchen when they ask if you have a helmet. Guybrush survives the trip and receives pieces of eight for his trouble.
Return to the Clearing and walk back the way you came to return to the Island Map. Go back to the Lookout , take the path down the mountain and past the Scumm Bar until you reach an Archway. Approach the Citizen of Melee the man with a parrot on his shoulder standing in the foreground. Tell him you had a barber named Dominique and then purchase the map to the legendary lost treasure of Melee Island for pieces of eight.
Leave, then walk to the Archway under the town clock and continue on to the other end of the village. Enter the last building on the left with the barred windows. The town Jail only has one prisoner, Otis. Try to speak to him and Guybrush will refuse because of his bad breath. After the funny conversation finishes, leave via the right-hand Archway and then enter the third door to the right from where you are.
Ask her about your future and tell her to say everything. After all the talking, head to the Scumm Bar. Looking kinda empty here Once you've finished talking to him, go into the kitchen, take the Hunk of Meat and and then use a Mug on the Barrel.
When you reach the Jail, use the Mug o' Grog or whichever derivative it is on the Lock to bust Otis outta there! Enthused with thanks for your good deed, he naturally offers to help if you need it, and of course, we need a crew to man the ship on our voyage to Monkey Island! Shame Otis isn't too thrilled by the idea Leave the village.
We need to look into getting a ship, so let's head to the Lights on the island map. Upon entering, you're assailed by Stan. Tell him you want a cheap boat and that you wanted to get it on credit. He mentions that the storekeeper might be able to give you credit if you have a job When you've finished talking to Stan, head back to the Village and into the shop.
Ask the storekeeper about getting some credit and tell him that you do have a job; when he goes to open up the safe, keep an eye open to note down the combination he uses to open it. Answer however you like, you won't get the credit; when he asks if he can do anything else, tell him you're looking for the Sword Master again. He'll go out, leaving the shop unsupervised To open the safe, Push and Pull the handle; Push moves it clockwise, and Pull moves it counter-clockwise.
Once you've entered the combination and grabbed the Storekeeper's Note, hightail it outta there! Go to the Sword Master's House on the island map, and talk to Carla; tell her that the Governor was kidnapped and she'll join your crew. Next, head to the Used Ship Emporium and ask Stan to show you the cheap one again; when he asks for payment, tell him that you have credit from the Storekeeper.
Now for the hard bit, getting the price down to 5, Pieces of Eight. You will need to haggle and bargain. There are a few techniques you can use:. Well, we've got one so far, Carla, but we need more! Where be that curvy lubber Otis hidin', arr? Use a Piece of Eight in the Grog machine, but nothing comes out.
Climb the Pole and use the Rubber Chicken on the Cable, before entering the house. A man with hooks for hands approaches you; tell him that the Governor has been kidnapped and then suggest you get a crew together and lead a rescue mission. After all the talking, open the last door, face the fearsome beast inside and touch it! Or any of the other 11 commands.
